  • What may have happened to the rest of the world? It seems unlikely that only America is populated.

    • Well, since Chicago is still good to live despite being on the northern part of USA, that meas the climate hasn't changed much and as such this can't take place on a FAR future. China should still be populated, same for Europe and Australia. Africa can't have gone far...

    • I also wonder about what lies beyond Chicago and the fringe. I'm guessing it's relatively unchanged, aside from some technology boosts in some of them. After all, it does say the Purity War "eliminated half the population of North America—'a level of destruction formerly unheard of on American soil'".

    • HALF of it? The the other half is still alive. Obviously the factions don't reach 10 million so... either they migrated for fear of theexperiments or are at bay.

    • We can assume, based on the level of tech, it was a 21st century deal, and it's pretty explicitly stated the Faction system was 200 years old, meaning it's at LEAST 2200, but I'd say it's around 2250, and the estimated population of the US in 2050 is going to be about 500,000,000 people, so that says the Purity Wars killed 250,000,000 people minimum. So, based on population growth and the assumption that the only cities left aren't directly under the control of the Bureau, that could be assumed to be about 350-400,000,000 people in the US.

    • You can't forget other factors. Fertilty rate is more likely to drop with the years. As such, I take back what I said with Europe. It probably is deserted or populated by asians because Europe just went low population rampage.

    • What about Africa and South America

    • South America is most likely populated. Africa... I wouldn't bet it.

    • maybe the other countries just has the U.S like a expriment too, just like experiment cities

    • Obviously there was a war, and half the population of N. America was wiped out, but there are many questions that still linger, like was it a nuclear war like Fallout, or maybe a horrible war against a tyrant? Also, the swamp that shows in the Divergent Series, I think it's Lake Michigan. They say it goes as far as the eye can see, so it seems logical...

    • There would have been a war in Asia too.

    • Roth is not going to go into details with that because it's "to much work" the only thing we can really do is guesstimate.😣
